If you need to make assessments you should consider whether alternative assessments are needed in order to protect the HMRC position. This procedure, which has been approved by the courts, is not considered to involve double taxation (see Bye v Coren 60 TC 116 and Lord Advocate v McKenna 61 TC 688).
