Suggested answer

Your employer will normally start making deductions when instructed to do so by HMRC. However, if you start an employment and you do not have a P45 form, you should complete a ‘starter checklist’. This will tell your employer you are in repayment of a Income Contingent student loan on plan 1, plan 2, plan 4 or plan 5 and or a Postgraduate loan. The employer will then be able to start making deductions on your next pay-day.

If you do not know which loan and or plan type you are repaying you can log into your online student loan account or access gov.uk website to find out more information.
