From HM Revenue & Customs · Collection of Student Loans Manual

Suggested answer

Whilst still a student (before commencing repayment of the loan) an annual statement is issued each September by the Student Loans Company.

Once the borrower has started to make repayments an annual statement is issued as follows

  • For borrowers making all of their repayments through their employer via the PAYE system, a statement is issued after the end of the tax year. This will happen after the Student Loans Company has received details of the repayments from HMRC

  • For borrowers making repayments direct to HMRC through Self Assessment a statement will be issued after the end of the tax year. The actual date depends on the borrower submitting their Self Assessment return on time to HMRC

HMRC action

None

Note: Borrowers must contact the Student Loans Company to discuss theissue of a statement or the contents.
