Dos:
Ensure you are making or intending to make a declaration to CDS before using this guide.
Begin with familiarising yourself with the UK Trade Tariff, CDS Volume 3 using the Navigation section of this Manual.
Ensure you are within the appropriate version of the UK Trade Tariff, CDS Volume 3 for the type of movement you are making.
Follow each of the steps detailed in sections CDSSG05000 - CDSSG13000, in their entirety and in the order shown. Failure to do so will result in declarations being rejected by CDS.
Ensure you refer to the latest version of the UK Trade Tariff, CDS Volume 3 each time you make a customs declaration or Customs Clearance Request (CCR).
Customs declarations or Customs Clearance Requests (CCR) must always be completed based on the specific circumstances and version of the UK Trade Tariff, CDS Volume 3 in force at the time the declaration is being made.
Don’ts:
Assume you know what information is required to be completed in a given data element based on previous Customs knowledge or codes as the information requirements, codes and formats are different in CDS.
Use this Step-by-Step Guide to complete a customs declaration or Customs Clearance Request (CCR) to CDS without referring to the actual UK Trade Tariff, CDS Volume 3.
Assume you know what information is required in a given data element without referring to the latest version of the UK Trade Tariff, CDS Volume 3 on Gov.UK as it is a live document and subject to regular revision.
