In general, the chargeable event legislation applies to

• policies of life insurance

• contracts for life annuities

• capital redemption policies

There are some specific exceptions to this (see IPTM7025 to IPTM7075), including certain:

• group life policies (see IPTM7025 to IPTM7050)

• mortgage protection policies (IPTM7055)

• pension policies (IPTM7060)

• life annuities (IPTM7065)

• pre-14 March 1989 policies and contracts owned by a company (IPTM7070)

• pre-20 March 1968 policies and contracts (IPTM7075).
