NIM01620 | Class 1 structural overview from 6 April 2009: 2022 to 2023 tax year only: annual maximum

From HM Revenue & Customs · National Insurance Manual

The rules for calculating the annual maximum for the 2022 to 2023 tax year are modified. Due to the in-year Primary Threshold change and the temporary change in rates for the 2022 to 2023 tax year for the purposes of the annual maximum at regulation 21 there are blended rates. They are:

  • 12.73% as the main primary percentage blended rate, and

  • 2.73% as the additional primary percentage blended rate.

There is also a change to the annual maximum calculation for Class 4 NICs at regulation 100 – see NIM24150 for guidance about the annual maximum.

See NIM01251 for guidance about the annual maximum and NIM01279 for an example for the 2022 to 2023 tax year.
