Regulation 111 of the Social Security (Contributions) Regulation 2001 (SSCR 2001) (SI 2001 No 1004)

Regulation 111 of the SSCR 2001 defines airman as a person who is, or has been, employed under a contract of service (entered into in the UK with a view to its performance, in whole or in part, while the aircraft is in flight) either as a

• pilot

• commander

• navigator

• other member of the crew of any aircraft

Or is employed in any other capacity on board any aircraft for the purposes of the aircraft or its

• crew

• passengers

• cargo or mails

This definition does not include members of HM Forces - see NIM32000 onwards.
