Paragraphs 4 to 6 of Schedule 1B to the Income Support (General) Regulations 1987) and section 44A (2)(c)(ii) of the Social Security Contributions and Benefits Act (SSCBA) 1992

A person was automatically awarded Home Responsibilities Protection (HRP) for each complete tax year from 6 April 1978 to 5 April 2010 in which they were:

  • in receipt of Income Support

  • regularly and substantially caring for someone who was entitled to certain prescribed benefits (as set out in paragraphs 4 to 6 of schedule 1B to the Income Support (General) Regulations 1987)

This award of HRP also counted towards their Additional (State Second) Pension (section 44A (2)(c)(ii) of the SSCBA 1992 refers).
