SAM31080 | Compliance: enquiry work: enquiry status
From HM Revenue & Customs · Self Assessment Manual
Enquiry status starts from Caseflow actions and flows to SA via linked processes.
The Enquiry Signal is set automatically when Compliance opens an enquiry on the Caseflow system. The signal will remain during the enquiry. When the enquiry is complete, it must be closed manually on Caseflow by the Compliance caseworker, and this should remove the Enquiry signal on SA.
The enquiry status flows over from Caseflow to control downstream processes and maintain compliance integrity as to prevent incorrect repayment.
Function VIEW COMPLIANCE SUMMARY shows the enquiry status for each tax year. If there is no enquiry for the tax year the status will appear as ‘NONE’.
Where there is, or has been, an enquiry for the tax year, the entry will show
The enquiry type, that is, S9A or S12AC
Whether the enquiry for the tax year is OPEN, PRESENT or CLOSED
Note: ‘OPEN’ or ‘PRESENT’ indicates the enquiry is underway for the tax year. ‘CLOSED’ is shown where the enquiry has been settled for the tax year, that is, a settlement date has been entered on the SA record. The enquiry signal cannot be set in the SA system. The enquiry status flows over from Caseflow and SA reflects what is set there.
