In order to be a chargeable land transaction, there must be the acquisition of a chargeable interest (see SDLTM00280). Certain interests are exempt (see SDLTM00320). Land transactions involving the acquisition of a chargeable (ie non exempt) interest may still be specifically exempted by the legislation or eligible for one of the SDLT reliefs.
If all land transactions is
specifically exempted by the legislation; or
there is no need to file a land transaction return
