Terms of Service

Version 1.0 — 12 October 2026.

Summary

This summary is not part of the terms.

  • These terms apply when you have a Solved plan, whether you use the app in a browser or connect through our MCP server.
  • Part A applies to everyone. Part B adds terms for Consumers, and Part C adds terms for Business Customers.
  • Do not send us personal data or client information, and make sure your AI agent doesn't either. Our filter rejects MCP queries that contain common identifiers, but it is a safeguard, not a guarantee.
  • We are the controller of the query data we receive, and we use it as our Privacy Notice explains. We are not your data processor.
  • Solved is a research tool, not legal or tax advice. Check anything important against the official source.
  • Consumers have a 14-day right to cancel, and their statutory rights are unaffected.
  • Case law is available only to verified professionals on the Expert plan (Part C).

Part A: Terms for everyone

A1. About these terms

A1.1 Who we are

Solved is provided by Solved Technologies Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales with company number 17359939, whose registered office is at 32 Dean Court Road, Cumnor Hill, Oxford, England, OX2 9XD ("Solved", "we", "us").

We are registered with the Information Commission (the ICO) under reference ZC256813.

You can contact us at [email protected].

A1.2 What these terms cover

These terms govern your use of the Solved app, enhanced website features available when signed in, and our MCP server (together, the "Service"). They form a contract between us and you.

A1.3 Consumers and Business Customers

  • If you use the Service as an individual for your own purposes, outside any trade, business, craft or profession, you are a "Consumer".
  • If you use the Service for a trade, business or profession, you are a "Business Customer".
    • (a) If you accept these terms on behalf of an organisation, you confirm that you are authorised to bind it, and "you" means that organisation.
    • (b) Otherwise, including if you are a sole trader, "you" means you personally, acting in a business capacity.

A1.4 Plans, accounts and Users

Your "plan" is the subscription you pay for, including its Seats and Corpora (section A2). An "account" is the sign-in for one named person, and a "User" is anyone with an account.

  • If you are a Consumer, or a Business Customer acting for yourself, you have one plan and one account, and you are its only User.
  • If you are an organisation, you have one plan, and each person you add to it has their own account under it as an "Authorised User" (section C1).

Where these terms say you must or must not do something, that also applies to your Authorised Users, and you must not allow anyone else (including an AI agent) to do it.

A1.5 How these terms are organised

Part A applies to everyone. Part B also applies if you are a Consumer, and Part C also applies if you are a Business Customer. If Part B or Part C conflicts with Part A, Part B or Part C wins for that type of customer.

A1.6 Other documents

Our Privacy Notice explains how we handle personal data, and our Cookie and Storage Policy explains our use of device storage. They do not form part of these terms.

A1.7 Age

You must be 18 or over to open an account.

A2. Your plan and account

A2.1 Plans

  • Our plans (currently Basic and Expert) give Users features beyond those available to visitors who use solved.legal without signing in, including access through our MCP server.
  • Expert also includes case law. It is available only to Business Customers, and only to Users we have verified as professionals (section C2).

What each plan includes, and its price, are shown before you buy: at checkout or, for Business Customers, in your Order. You can also see your current plan and what it includes in your Workspace settings.

A2.2 Seats and Corpora

  • Plans are charged per Seat. A Seat lets one named User use the features of the plan through their account.
  • A Corpus is a collection of sources in one area of law that we make available together, such as tax or employment law. Each Seat includes one Corpus, and further Corpora can be added to a Seat for an additional charge.
  • The User of a Seat chooses which Corpora they access, and can swap each selected Corpus for a different one once per billing month. A billing month is each month of your term, starting on the day of the month your plan began.

A2.3 Free trials

We may offer a free trial of a plan. The length of the trial, what it includes, and the price you will pay afterwards are shown when you start it. Expert trials are available only once we have verified the User as a professional (section C2).

When the trial ends, your plan starts automatically and we will charge the payment method you gave us, unless you cancel before the trial ends in your Workspace settings. We will remind you by email at least 7 days before the trial ends.

A2.4 Signing up and signing in

You must give us accurate information when signing up and keep it up to date. Users can sign in with a one-time code sent to their email address, or with a single sign-on provider we support, such as Google.

A2.5 One account per person

Each account is for one named person and uses one Seat. You must not share sign-in details, codes or MCP tokens with anyone else.

A2.6 Keeping accounts secure

You must keep sign-in methods and tokens secure, and tell us straight away at [email protected] if you think someone else has accessed an account.

You are responsible for activity on all accounts under your plan, except where the activity results from our failure to keep the Service secure.

A2.7 AI agents

If you connect an AI agent or application to Solved:

(a) you are responsible for what it does and sends, including queries and feedback;

(b) you must configure it, so far as you reasonably can, not to send the information described in section A4.1;

(c) where its provider allows it, you must turn off the provider's use of your conversations to train its models; and

(d) we do not control it, and we are not responsible for how it interprets or uses what we return, or for anything it produces.

A3. The Service

A3.1 Changes to the Service

We continually develop the Service. We may add, change or remove features, provided that during a paid term we do not materially reduce the core features of your plan. This does not apply to changes to case law, which follow section C2.

A3.2 Availability

We aim to keep the Service available and working, but we do not promise that it will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may suspend it for maintenance, security or reasons outside our control. Unless we agree otherwise in writing, we do not offer service levels.

A3.3 Usage limits

We may set reasonable rate limits and usage limits for the MCP server. We will tell you about them in the Service, in our MCP documentation or in writing. You must not try to get around them.

A4. Personal data and client information

A4.1 Do not send personal data or client information

You must not include personal data (your own or anyone else's) or client information in queries or feedback. That means anything that identifies an individual or a client, or that a client has given you in confidence. Search using legal terms, citations and concepts instead.

The only exception is your own email address, entered in the field provided, if you want a reply to feedback.

A4.2 Our filter

We filter certain content received through our MCP server. This filter is described in our Privacy Notice.

The filter is a safeguard, not a guarantee. It will not catch everything, and it does not reduce your responsibility under sections A2.7 and A4.1.

A5. Your data and our use of it

A5.1 We are the controller

We are the controller of the queries, usage data and feedback we receive through the Service, and we use them as described in our Privacy Notice: to provide the Service, keep it secure, analyse how it is used and improve it.

We do not act as your data processor for query content, and we do not enter into data processing agreements for it.

A5.2 Your queries

We do not claim ownership of the text of your queries. You give us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use queries and usage data to provide, secure, analyse and improve the Service, in line with our Privacy Notice and for as long as we hold them under it.

A5.3 Feedback

If you send us feedback, we may use it to improve Solved without paying you or owing you anything.

A5.4 What we do not do

We do not sell your data, and we do not use your queries to train AI models.

A6. Payment and renewal

A6.1 Price and payment

Plans are charged at a fixed price per Seat, plus any additional Corpora, for a monthly term. You pay in advance for each term. Payments are processed by Stripe.

We may offer discounts. A discounted plan is still a plan under these terms.

We are not currently registered for VAT, so no VAT is charged. Sections B2 and C3 explain what happens if we register.

A6.2 Adding Seats or Corpora

If you add Seats or Corpora part-way through a term, we will charge the full amount for that term.

A6.3 Renewal

At the end of each term, your plan renews automatically for the same term at the then-current price, until you cancel (section A11.1). If your plan ends and is not renewed, all accounts under it are closed (section A11.4).

A6.4 Price changes

We will give you at least 30 days' notice of any price change. It will take effect from your next renewal, not part-way through a term you have paid for. You can cancel before it takes effect.

A6.5 Refunds

Payments are not refundable, except:

A7. Acceptable use

You must not:

(a) resell, sublicense, rent or provide the Service to third parties, give third parties access to it through your own product or service, or use it in a service bureau or similar arrangement, except under a separate written agreement with us;

(b) use our own content (section A8.3), including any structure, links, definitions or metadata returned by the Service, to build, train or improve any AI model, or any product or service that competes with Solved, or bulk-extract or systematically copy it;

(c) get around rate limits, usage limits, the client-data filter or any security measure, or access the Service other than through our website, app and MCP server;

(d) reverse engineer, decompile or disassemble the Service, except where the law allows this and it cannot be excluded;

(e) interfere with the Service's security or operation, introduce malicious code, or test for vulnerabilities without our written permission; or

(f) use the Service unlawfully, to infringe anyone's rights, or to process personal data unlawfully.

Further restrictions apply to personal data and client information (section A4) and to case law (section C2.5).

A8. Intellectual property

A8.1 Three kinds of content

The Service contains three kinds of content, and different rules apply to each:

  • Official content: legislation, HMRC manuals, tax treaties and other public-sector information (section A8.2);
  • Case law: court and tribunal judgments, available to verified professionals only (section C2); and
  • Our own content: everything else (section A8.3).

A8.2 Official content

Official content comes from legislation.gov.uk and GOV.UK. It is Crown copyright and is used under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Your rights to re-use it come from that licence, and nothing in these terms restricts them, but you must meet its attribution requirements.

A8.3 Our own content

We, or our licensors, own our own content. That includes our software, the way we structure, link and cross-reference sources, definition mappings, metadata, design and branding.

A8.4 Your licence to use the Service

While your plan is active, we give you and your Users a non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to use the Service in line with these terms. You may use results returned to you (or your AI agent) provided that you comply with section A7.

Your rights in official content and case law come from the licences in sections A8.2 and C2.2, not from this licence.

A8.5 Notices

You must not remove any proprietary or attribution notices, including the case law acknowledgement in section C2.2.

A9. Not legal or tax advice

A9.1 Research tool only

Solved is a research tool. It is not legal, tax or other professional advice, and using it does not create any professional relationship between us and you or your Users.

A9.2 Check official sources

We update official content and case law daily, but there may be a delay between a change at source and its appearance on Solved. You must check anything you rely on against the official source.

Links, cross-references and definitions are produced partly by automated means and may contain errors or omissions.

If you use Solved in advising others, you remain responsible for that advice.

A10. What we do not limit

Nothing in these terms limits or excludes our liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot be limited or excluded by law.

The rest of our liability is set out in section B5 (Consumers) and section C5 (Business Customers).

A11. Cancelling, suspension and ending these terms

A11.1 If you cancel

You can cancel your plan at any time in your Workspace settings or by emailing [email protected]. You keep access until the end of your current term, and your plan then ends. If you ask us to close your account straight away, we will, but you will not get a refund for the rest of the term unless section B3 applies.

A11.2 If we suspend or close an account

We may suspend or close an account, or your whole plan, immediately if:

(a) these terms are seriously or repeatedly breached, including sections A4, A7 or C2.5;

(b) you do not pay what you owe (section C3.4); or

(c) we must do so by law or to protect the Service or others.

Where it is reasonable to do so, we will warn you first and give you a chance to put things right.

A11.3 Ending these terms for other reasons

We may end these terms for any other reason by giving you at least 30 days' notice.

A11.4 When an account closes or a plan ends

Whenever an account is closed, for whatever reason, the right to use the Service through it stops, and we handle its data as our Privacy Notice describes for closed accounts. When your plan ends or these terms end, all accounts under your plan are closed.

Sections A5, A8, A9, A10, A12, A13, B5, C2.5, C2.6, C3.4, C4 and C5 continue to apply after these terms end.

A12. Changes to these terms

A12.1 When we may change these terms

We may change these terms to reflect changes in the law, in our Service or in how we run our business.

A12.2 Notice of changes

We will give you at least 30 days' notice of any material change by email or in the app, unless a shorter period is needed to comply with the law. We may make changes that are not material, such as corrections or clarifications, without notice. The date of the current version is shown below.

For material changes, we will ask Users to accept the updated terms when they next sign in.

A12.3 If you do not agree

If you do not agree to a material change, you can cancel your plan before it takes effect and receive a refund (section A6.5). If you keep using the Service after the change takes effect, the new terms apply.

A13. General

A13.1 Transfer

We may transfer our rights and obligations to another organisation, for example if our business is sold. We will tell you if this happens, and it will not reduce your rights, except that case law may be withdrawn under section C2.4 if our licence for it cannot be transferred.

You may not transfer your rights or obligations without our written consent.

A13.2 Third parties

No one other than you and us has any right to enforce these terms.

A13.3 Severability

If a court decides that any part of these terms is invalid, the rest continues to apply.

A13.4 No waiver

If we delay in enforcing these terms, we can still enforce them later.

A13.5 Events outside our control

We are not responsible for delay or failure caused by events beyond our reasonable control. We will tell you, and take reasonable steps to minimise the effect.

A13.6 Notices

We will contact you at the email address on your account or, for Business Customers, the contact named in your Order. You can contact us at [email protected].

A13.7 Complaints

If you are unhappy with the Service, please email [email protected]. We will respond within 14 days.

Complaints about how we handle personal data are dealt with under section 11 of our Privacy Notice.

Part B: Additional terms for Consumers

This Part applies only if you are a Consumer.

B1. Your plan

B1.1 Personal use

You may use the Service for your own personal purposes only. You can buy the Basic plan; the Expert plan (which includes case law) is not available to Consumers.

B1.2 Changes that affect you

If we make a change to the Service that materially affects you during a paid term, we will tell you in advance, and you may cancel and receive a refund for the unused part of the term (section A6.5).

B2. Price and payment

B2.1 Price

You pay the price shown at checkout, less any discount we offer at the time. That price is the total you pay. If we register for VAT, any resulting price change will be treated as a price change under section A6.4.

B2.2 Failed payments

If a renewal payment fails, we will tell you and try to take payment again over the following 7 days. Your access may be paused during that time. If payment still fails, your plan ends, your account is closed (section A11.4), and we will not charge you for the renewal or for the days we were trying to take payment.

B3. Your right to cancel

B3.1 14-day right to cancel

You may cancel a plan within 14 days of buying it, without giving a reason. If you started with a free trial, you may also cancel within 14 days of your first payment.

To cancel, use the cancel option in your Workspace settings or email [email protected] with a clear statement that you are cancelling.

B3.2 Your plan starts straight away

Your plan starts as soon as you buy it. At checkout, we will ask you to confirm that you want it to start immediately, during the 14-day cancellation period. If you then cancel within those 14 days, we will refund what you paid less a proportionate amount for the period before you told us you were cancelling.

If you cancel within 14 days of your first payment after a free trial, we will refund that payment less a proportionate amount for the period from that payment until you told us you were cancelling. You will not pay anything for the trial itself.

B3.3 Refunds

We will make any refund within 14 days of your cancellation, using the payment method you used.

B4. Your statutory rights

We must provide the Service with reasonable care and skill and as we have described it. If we do not, you may be entitled to have us put it right or to a price reduction. Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights. For more information, contact Citizens Advice.

B5. Our liability to you

B5.1 Foreseeable loss

If we break these terms or fail to use reasonable care and skill, we are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result. Loss is foreseeable if it is obvious that it will happen, or if we both knew it might happen when you entered into the contract. We are not responsible for loss that is not foreseeable.

B5.2 Business losses

We provide the Service to Consumers for personal use only. We are not liable to you for any loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption or loss of business opportunity.

B5.3 Your statutory rights

Nothing in these terms prevents you from recovering the price you paid where the law gives you that right.

B6. Law and courts

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales. You may bring proceedings in the courts of England and Wales. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you may also bring proceedings in your local courts.

Part C: Additional terms for Business Customers

This Part applies only if you are a Business Customer.

C1. Orders and Authorised Users

C1.1 Orders

Any Order we agree with you, setting out your price, number of Seats, term and payment terms, forms part of these terms. If an Order conflicts with these terms, the Order wins, but only for the point it expressly deals with. A change to these terms under section A12 does not override anything your Order expressly deals with, unless you agree to it in writing.

C1.2 Managing your plan

You manage your plan through the Authorised Users you appoint as administrators in the app. Administrators can add and remove Authorised Users and Seats, decide how many Corpora each Seat includes, and cancel your plan. Anything an administrator does in the app binds you.

C1.3 Authorised Users

  • You may add Authorised Users at any time in line with your Order, and we will charge for additional Seats as your Order sets out.
  • You are responsible for your Authorised Users' compliance with these terms.
  • You must remove an Authorised User's access when they leave or no longer need it. When you do, their account is closed (section A11.4).
  • If an Authorised User closes their own account, your plan continues, and you can reassign or remove their Seat under your Order.

C2. Case law

C2.1 Who can access case law

Case law (court and tribunal judgments) is available only on the Expert plan, and only to Verified Professionals.

A Verified Professional is a User whom we have verified as using Solved in the course of their legal, tax or other professional work.

We decide whether to verify a User, and we may withdraw verification if we are no longer satisfied.

C2.2 Source and licence

Judgments come from The National Archives' Find Case Law service, and are shown with the following acknowledgement:

Crown copyright material reproduced by permission of The National Archives. The contents of the judgment can be used under the Open Justice – Licence.

Your right to re-use the contents of a judgment comes from that licence, not from us, and you must meet its conditions.

C2.3 Judgments are not a complete record

The judgments available through Solved only partially represent the activities of the courts and tribunals.

C2.4 Changes and removal

We publish only the current version of each judgment.

We remove judgments that are no longer published by The National Archives or that have been replaced, and we may restrict access to comply with a judicial decision.

We may also withdraw case law from the Service entirely, for example if our licence ends. If we do, we will tell you, and move you to Basic at the Basic price for the rest of your term.

C2.5 What you must not do with case law

You must not:

(a) scrape, crawl, bulk-download or systematically copy judgments, or make them available to search engines or other third parties for indexing or crawling;

(b) use judgments, or present anything derived from them, in a way that suggests official status or that The National Archives or any court or tribunal endorses you or your work;

(c) breach any anonymity order, reporting restriction or other judicial decision restricting the use of information in a judgment;

(d) use judgments in any way that could jeopardise the proper administration of justice;

(e) carry out computational analysis of judgments obtained through the Service, or use them to train or improve any AI model, other than through the Service itself; or

(f) use judgments, or analysis of them, in a way that fails to respect the dignity of the courts and tribunals or the independence of the judiciary, such as profiling or ranking individual judges.

C2.6 Personal data in judgments

Judgments can contain personal data, including information about health and criminal proceedings. We are not your data processor for judgments. If you use personal data from a judgment in your own work, you do so as a separate controller, and you are responsible for having a lawful basis and complying with data protection law, including any judicial restriction under section C2.5(c).

C2.7 Suspension

We may suspend or withdraw a User's access to case law immediately if we reasonably believe that section C2.5 has been breached, or if The National Archives asks us to.

C3. Price and payment

C3.1 Price

You pay the price in your Order or, if there is no Order, the price shown at checkout. Your Order may set different payment terms, and may vary section A6.2 on adding Seats or Corpora.

C3.2 Paying for several months in advance

Your Order may let you pay for several months in advance, for example in return for a discount. If it does, the months you have paid for are treated as a single term for the purposes of these terms, including renewal (section A6.3), price changes (section A6.4), refunds (section A6.5) and cancelling (section A11.1).

C3.3 VAT

If we register for VAT, VAT will be added to our prices at the applicable rate from the date of registration. We will give you notice of this.

C3.4 Late payment

If you do not pay on time, we may suspend your plan after giving you 7 days' notice. Suspension does not affect your obligation to pay. All fees for the current term remain due, including for any period of suspension, and we may take steps to recover them. If any amount is still unpaid 30 days after suspension, we may end these terms.

C4. Client confidentiality

C4.1 Professional obligations

If you owe duties of confidentiality to clients, including under the rules of a professional regulator or other relevant organisation, you remain responsible for meeting them when using the Service. Our filter (section A4.2) does not reduce that responsibility.

C4.2 Indemnity

If you breach section A4, you will reimburse us for reasonable losses, costs and liabilities we suffer as a direct result, including the costs of responding to a regulator or a data subject.

C5. Our liability to you

C5.1 Implied terms

Except as expressly set out in these terms, and to the fullest extent permitted by law, we exclude all conditions, warranties, representations and other terms that might otherwise be implied by statute, common law or otherwise, including terms about satisfactory quality and fitness for purpose.

C5.2 Excluded losses

Subject to section A10, we will not be liable, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty or otherwise, for any of the following:

(a) loss of profits, sales, revenue, business, opportunity, contracts or anticipated savings;

(b) loss of or damage to goodwill or reputation;

(c) loss or corruption of data;

(d) loss arising from reliance on the content of the Service without checking it against the official source, or from advice given to any third party;

(e) loss arising from AI agents or applications connected to the Service; or

(f) indirect or consequential loss.

Each is a separate exclusion, and if any of them is found to be unenforceable, the others still apply.

C5.3 Overall cap

Subject to section A10, our total liability to you, whether in contract, tort (including negligence), breach of statutory duty or otherwise, arising under or in connection with these terms in any 12-month period is limited to the greater of £100 and the total fees you paid us in the 12 months before the event giving rise to the claim.

This overall cap applies whether or not any exclusion applies in section C5.2.

C5.4 Your Authorised Users

The exclusions and limits in this section C5 also apply to any claim against us by your Authorised Users. Our total liability to you and your Authorised Users together is subject to the single cap in section C5.3.

C5.5 Time limit for claims

Subject to section A10, you must bring any claim against us arising under or in connection with these terms within 12 months of the date on which you became aware, or ought reasonably to have become aware, of the facts giving rise to it. After that, the claim is barred.

C6. Entire agreement, law and courts

C6.1 Entire agreement

These terms and any Order are the whole agreement between us about the Service. Neither of us relies on any statement not set out in them. This does not limit liability for fraudulent misrepresentation.

C6.2 Law and courts

These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction.
