From HM Revenue & Customs · Company Taxation Manual

Example 1

Accounting period 1 January 2012 to 31 July2012.

  • Final instalment (3 months and 14 days after the end of the accounting period) = 14 November 2012

  • First instalment (6 months and 13 days after 1.1.2012) = 14 July 2012

  • Second instalment (3 months after the first instalment) = 14 October 2012.

The third instalment is not due. The due date for the third instalment is 3 months after the second. In this case, that is 14 January 2013, which is after the due date for the final instalment

Example 2

Accounting period 16 October 2011 to 20 July 2012.

  • Final instalment (3 months and 14 days after the end of the accounting period) = 3 November 2012

  • First instalment (6 months and 13 days after 16.10.2011) = 29 April 2012

  • Second instalment (3 months after the first) = 29 July 2012

  • Third instalment 3 months after the second = 29 October 2012.

Example 3

Accounting period 1 June 2012 to 31 August 2012.

  • Final instalment (3 months and 14 days after 31 August 2012) = 14 December 2012.

The due date for the first instalment, 6 months and 13 days after 1 June 2012, falls on the same day as the final instalment, so only one instalment is due.
