Why share information with the Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority (CICA)

CICA is a Non-Departmental Public Body which administers the Criminal Injuries Compensation Scheme throughout England, Scotland and Wales and it sometimes requires HMRC information to help process its customers’ compensation claims.

Ensuring information is shared lawfully

The only way that HMRC may lawfully share customer information with the CICA is if the customer has provided consent for us to do so.

IDG30210 provides general information about obtaining customer consent but the specific procedure for obtaining customer consent in the case of CICA is outlined below.

Procedure to follow

CICA will provide a copy of a form which details how the customer has provided consent for HMRC to disclose their information to CICA (this will include a signature). Only the information for which the customer has given their consent may be disclosed.

Devolved administrations

The Criminal Injuries Compensation Authority applies to England, Scotland and Wales. The relevant body in Northern Ireland is the Compensation Agency. If you receive a request from the Compensation Agency in Northern Ireland, please deal with it in the same way as outlined above.
