IHTM01022 | Inheritance Tax in HMRC: Customer Services work

Some of the main areas that staff in Customer Services are involved in will include:

• ensuring the correct amount of Inheritance Tax (IHT) is assessed and collected before the grant is obtained;

• processing IHT accounts received in HMRC and entering data into HMRC systems;

• handling more straightforward taxpaying and non-taxpaying cases following a risk assessment process;

• the Service Technical Support team – providing a first level of support on technical and procedural matters;

• the Inheritance Tax Helpline (before 2 October 2023, the Probate and Inheritance Tax Helpline) – a telephone enquiry service for both members of the public and the professions. Both general and specific enquiries are handled. The Helpline telephone number is 0300 123 1072.
