From HM Revenue & Customs · PAYE Manual

Some employers submit information to HMRC online using Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) or Online Return and Forms - PAYE (ORFP).

The interface also allows employers to receive the following forms online on a daily basis

  • P6

  • Budget P6
    And

  • P9

The same Employment Regulations apply to employers who opt to file their Employment Maintenance forms online as to any other employer.

Automatic processing updates the record in respect of leaving or changes of employment details and will create a new record for a new employment where an existing record cannot be found.

If the automatic process fails, a work item will be produced to prompt you to review the case. Details from the rejected data input record will be shown on the work item with the reason for rejection. This information will enable you to take the appropriate action.
