If there has been a change in the basic rate of tax for the year for which repayment is claimed see RM5528

For claims for 1968-69 or earlier under S228 ITA1952 compute the repayment according to FICO or, HMRC Trusts Bootle/Edinburgh instructions.

In any other case

  • calculate the overpayment using the information from the claim form

  • assume the figures are correct unless it is clear that the claimant has made some incorrect entries, for example, if the tax credit is inconsistent with the dividend.
