NMWM16430 | Disclosure of information: Criminal Records Bureau, Disclosure Scotland and police service Northern Ireland

The Criminal Records Bureau, and its Scottish equivalent Disclosure Scotland, are the Government agencies which undertake checks on criminal records in order to help organisations in the public, private and voluntary sectors by identifying candidates who may be unsuitable to work with children or other vulnerable members of society.

In Northern Ireland all criminal record checks are conducted by the Police Service Northern Ireland.

There are powers in the legislation that created these bodies for further legislation to be drafted which could permit HM Revenue & Customs (NMWM02030) to disclose information to the Criminal Records Bureau, Disclosure Scotland or Police Service Northern Ireland. However, this further legislation has not yet been implemented. Therefore, HM Revenue & Customs may not yet disclose any information to the Criminal Records Bureau, Disclosure Scotland or Police Service Northern Ireland.
