If a customer advises that they have been declared bankrupt, action will depend on the circumstances of the overpayment.

Recoverable overpayment
Determine
the date of bankruptcy
the court where bankruptcy was declared
the bankruptcy reference number.
This information can be found at www.gov.uk/insolvency-service.
Check the date of the overpayment.
If the overpayment decision was made after the date of bankruptcy, continue normal recovery action as per Insolvency Manual (INS2404).
If the overpayment decision was made prior to the date of bankruptcy, refer case to the DMUW Enforcement Officer.
