Action by the sheriff officer

Once the sheriff officer has served the service documents on the defender he willprepare a certificate of citation showing (DMBM680090)

  • the date on which he cited the defender

  • how service was effected (by post/personally) and what type of postal service was used and

  • the name of the person who witnessed the citation.

He will send it to you along with the relevant postal receipt.

Action by the debt management office

You will need both the certificate of citation and the postal receipt as proof ofposting later on in the proceedings when you return the initial writ to the court afterthe expiry of the period of notice (DMBM680090).
