Trainee teachers are often required to do a period of work experience as part of a higher education course (NMWM05340). If that period of work experience does not exceed one year and is undertaken before the end of the course the trainee teacher does not qualify for the National Minimum Wage in respect of work performed for his employer as part of that course.
