From HM Revenue & Customs · Tax Credits Manual
This is a process that will be managed by Debt Management Banking (DMB) only and there is no action for B&C staff to take.
The following is for awareness only
Step 1
On the ‘Function Menu’
select ‘IY Finalisation’ on the toolbar
select ‘Maintain UC Stop Notice’ from the options available. You will be taken to the ‘Key Entry Data – Applicant’ screen
enter the customer’s NINO
select ‘OK’.
If you are taken to the select stop notice screen
select ‘Create’ pushbutton. You will be taken to the ‘Create Stop Notice’ screen
go to Step 2.
If you are taken to the ‘View Stop Notice’ screen
select ‘Create’ pushbutton. You will be taken to the ‘Create Stop Notice’ screen
go to Step 2.
Step 2
On the ‘Maintain UC Stop Notice – create stop notice’ screen
select ‘Debt Notice’ in the ‘notice type’ field
select ‘OK’.
Note: On selecting ‘Debt Notice’ this will trigger the debt process and identify any debt associated with the NINO entered at the key entry data screen. This will not end that individual’s latest tax credit claim.
If there is no UC Stop Notice for the NINO entered in the key entry data screen, the following error message will be displayed
‘UC Stop Notice not present for this claimant. A Debt Notice cannot be created’
If you do not have the appropriate permission to create a debt notice the following message will be displayed
‘You are not authorised to create a UC Stop Notice’
take no further action.
